Zambian Vocal Group | Lyrics, Song Meanings & Music Videos

The Zambian Vocal Group is a group of five men from Zambia – a landlocked country in south-central Africa. The original group was formed in 1985 in a small church in Kalingalinga a suburb of Lusaka – the capital city of Zambia. The original group had ten members namely Daniel Mwanza (Director of Music), James Mbewe, Godfrey Tembo, Zaccheaus Zulu, Richard Fulumana, Josephat Mbenga, Webster Munchini, Oliver Mabiya, Thomas Simonde, and Sylvester Kalandanya Pupe Sichangwa. The group was “discovered” by a visiting American missionary in 1989. At that time, we never dreamed of visiting the United States. However, through God's grace we started touring the USA in 1993 as Zambian Acappella. At the time we were raising funds to help different schools in Lusaka, Zambia.

However, in 2000, the group changed its name to the Zambian Vocal Group and its entire focus onto a rundown school that catered for orphans and other disadvantaged children in the Chainda community of Lusaka, Zambia. In that year we introduced an initiative called “Reach Out” to raise money to purchase the land for the school. A group of people from a small church in North Carolina were among the first donors to the “Reach Out” program, and before long the program caught momentum. We soon had more than 600 people from across the United States donating money towards this noble cause.

In mid-2007, we formed our non-profit organization – Teach One International – to specifically raise money for constructing a Zambian Vocal Group Academy. This was the birth of the Zambian Vocal Group Academy which currently offers basic primary education (first through seventh grade) to some 250 students.
