The Netflix Sci-Fi Thriller Blockbuster Leaving Streaming Is An Epic Spectacle

Godzilla: King of the Monsters was part of Legendary Entertainment’s plan to establish a shared cinematic universe featuring iconic monsters. Michael Dougherty took over directing duties from Gareth Edwards, who helmed its 2014 predecessor, Godzilla. The film aimed to pay homage to the classic Toho kaiju films while introducing modern visual effects and storytelling.

The creatures in Godzilla: King of the Monsters were created by a team of designers and artists, including Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. co-founder Tom Woodruff Jr. and Legacy Effects co-founder Shane Mahan. The team used various media, including traditional clay sculpture, to create concept designs for the film’s three new monster characters – Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan.

The monsters were brought to life through digital artistry by the visual effects studios DNEG, Method Studios, and Rodeo FX. Godzilla: King of the Monsters also includes various references to classic Godzilla movies, while composer Bear McCreary incorporated the original Godzilla theme by Akira Ifukube into the film’s score.
