Enthusiasts for the original have a touching point -- a woman with muscular dystrophy called the paralyzed character, who becomes a success despite her handicap, "an inspiration" -- but DC brass said she remains a runaway favorite among fans. The new Batgirl will be younger, but will keep her time as a paralytic in her history. The change comes comes as DC relaunches its entire line of comic book characters with a fresh, modern take.
